It’s Smoothie Time!
Smoothies are a delicious and nutritious addition to everyday! I keep my smoothie recipes very simple and fast to ensure I will make them regularly. If it took too long, I promise you, I wouldn’t do it.
First things first- I freeze all of my ingredients. I buy large bags of greens, usually a blend of spinach, bok choy, swiss chard, kale… whatever mix you like. I pour the entire bag into a gallon Ziploc bag and put it in the freezer. This makes it nice and easy to open the bag, put a handful into my blender pitcher or smoothie cup, then close the bag and throw it back in the freezer.
Secondly- I buy bags of various frozen fruits. I have also gone to the farmer’s market and bought my own fruit and spent two hours of my weekend washing, peeling, and chopping. The moral of the story is, it is much faster and easier to buy bags of fruits I love, already clean and prepared. I told you… keep it simple 🙂
Thirdly- I always use a frozen banana. A frozen banana gives this amazing smooth and creamy consistency that I love! I buy a bundle, spend a few minutes chopping them into small pieces, put each banana in a Ziploc bag and put them in the freezer. This way, all I have to do is grab a bag and empty it into my container… voila!
Lastly- Choose your liquid. Sometimes I use plain water, sometimes I use coconut water, skim milk, almond milk… whatever makes you happy. What I have found with greens is they can be quite bitter. I like to buy a flavored coconut water to sweeten things up a bit. Choosing sweeter fruits can help with this also.
Here are some of my favorite combinations, I do not include measurements because everyone will use a different container. Sometimes I will make an entire pitcher and sometimes I will use a small smoothie cup with my Nutri Bullet. Remember, less liquid/more ingredients = thicker smoothie, more liquid/less ingredients = thinner smoothie.
